My ministry philosophy can basically be boiled down to this: the Gospel and Gospel-centered theology should drive our ministry and decision making. So when it comes to church architecture it’s pretty low on my ministry priorities. That said, when church architecture goes wrong…well…

The folk over at Real Clear Religion have put together a slideshow of some of the world’s ugliest churches. And there are some ugly churches. Here are some of my ‘favourites’ (with accompanying tag lines from Real Clear Religion italicised):

Solid Rock Church in Monroe, Ohio. Nondenominational. “Why, God? Why?!”

St. Gregorius Church in Aachen, Germany. Roman Catholic. Hoover damned. Home of the angry aluminium Jesus (below)

Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King in Liverpool, England. Roman Catholic. It looks like one of the early designs of Sauron for the Lord of the Rings movies…

Church of Santa Monica in Rivas-Vaciamadrid, Spain. Roman Catholic. Optimus Prime goes here.

St. Francis de Sales Church in Muskegon, Michigan. Roman Catholic.

Church of the Most Holy Trinity in Vienna, Austria. Roman Catholic. It’s like a cross between a Jenga pile and Stonehenge…

Catedral Basílica Menor Nossa Senhora da Glória in Maringá, Brazil. Roman Catholic. I’ve seen this design before

Kappal Matha Church in Uvari, India. Roman Catholic.
