There’s a show on the ABC called ‘Media Watch‘ – the show basically keeps an eye on the media at large and points out inconsistencies or bias. The show itself, however, has proven it can be biased as well. But enough of that…

I want to turn attention to some of the reporting on the Miracle on the Hudson River today. A US Airways Airbus A320 made the crash-landing shortly after take off from LaGuardia airport, New York when both engines failed after flying through a flock of birds. The plane managed to land relatively safely onto the Hudson River saving the lives of the 155 people onboard. Due honour should go to the quick thinking pilot who decided to use the river as his landing strip, searched the cabin twice to ensure nobody was left behind and was the last to leave his plane.

But the reporting of this event, particularly on the Channel 9 news tonight, was interesting. The reporter began her story with the basic facts and then went on to say (something to the effect) that, “Whilst the passengers stood on the wings of the plane waiting for rescue a number of them prayed, but what saved them was a lack of panic…”

A number of passengers prayed…BUT…what saved them was a lack of panic.

When there is no God, there is no one to thank. When there is a God, there is someone to thank – and there is someone to be held accountable to.

Come along this Sunday to CCCB SLE to hear a great sermon from Mike Raiter on this very issue…
