John Piper has been preaching through John at Bethlehem Baptist over the last few months. He was asked the question recently, ‘What commentaries are you using?’ Here is his response:
Note a few things:
- How deeply passionate he is about the commentaries reflections upon the text
- How great he finds different ‘windows’ and ‘perspectives’ from different authors
- His own thoughts and wrestling with the text and the questions he has before approaching a commentary
A great example on the use and place of commentaries in preaching :)
