A few weekends ago 15+ Brisbanites descended upon Sydney to witness the union of our brother and sister, Julez and Celz.
A late flight down (with complimentary wine!), meeting old friends, catching up with new ones made for a hectic but good weekend.
The wedding was beautiful. The message from Eugene Hor was also quite unique – the couple had decided that a message from Ephesians 2:1-10 was appropriate, and though not relating to marriage (at all) the message was clear and direct. I hope that those in the audience who had not reflected on these words before would do so.
The Brisbanites then had an interesting seating arrangement at the reception. Two tables were stuck at the back behind a rather rowdy Asian table which was apparently an unfortunate mistake by the restaurant. We did the best we could to listen to the speeches which seemed very warm and heartfelt.
Speaking of Asian, the speeches were interesting. The father of the groom gave a speech which almost resembled a resume. I found this disappointing because the bride and groom were more than their achievements. Both are brother and sister in Christ and committed to the sharing of the Gospel to the ends of the earth. To have their lives boiled down to their studies and career raised an eyebrow or two around our tables.
But oh well, I don’t think many other people noticed.
