A couple of DVD’s and some 160+MB Video clip download later and I’ve had a good filling of Tommy Emmanuel CGP playing/teaching. My goodness!
Something that struck me whilst watching these clips was watching how ‘into’ the songs Tommy gets when playing – it’s not just notes that he’s played over and over again, but a love and passion that comes from just watching the way he plays.
I hope that this is something I emphasise when I teach* other people to play the guitar also. To have a passion for what you are playing – especially when it comes to playing church music. Playing with passion and with feel assists musicians to participate in the corporate worship time that is the music in church – a big step up from reading chords on a page like C, D/F#, G…etc.
I want to be able to continue to play with passion – the end goal, I suppose, is not to play like Tommy…but like Shteeejei ;)
*I use this term rather loosely as I’m still quite a novice myself!
