From this morning’s talk by Peter Lin
It might take a lot to make a bride beautiful these days (hair, makeup, dress, shoes, jewellery). But that’s not close to what it took Jesus to prepare his bride. There was no glamorous white dress, only a mocking purple robe of humiliation. His head was not adorned with a veil, but punctured by a crown of thorns. His beaten bloody bruised body drew not the looks of wonder, but of scorn and disgust. And his tortured form pierced by angry nails of crucifixion brought no smiles of happy delight, only the haunting silence of death alone without God. Abandoned by him. For this was the price of sin. And the cost to bring his bride back into relationship with God. We are his bride, we are his church, and we should ever be so deeply grateful.
