For the past few years I’ve held a bi-annual event at my home called ‘SWOTVAC @ The Trans’. SWOTVAC (Study WithOut Teaching VACation) is the week long break during semester studies at University for students to study for their exams. It’s the time when information is overloaded, when going out is limited, stress is high and caffeine becomes your best friend.
Remembering what it was like to go through these at Uni I started this little event while at Bible College to serve students while also studying myself.
The idea: come to our place for a quiet place to study, free internet, great coffee, and I’ll also provide lunch for you so you don’t have to cook.
Now, it’s the lunch aspect which is why I’m blogging at the moment. I’ve stumbled upon this great site – the Art of Manliness – and over the past month he’s been putting together some great, manly, sandwich recipes.
My favourite at the moment is this Homemade Roast Beef Au Jus. Home roasted round beef with light herbs and a beef jus for dipping. Mouth watering. Just check it out!
This dude even has his own meat slicer. Fully manly.
Another favourite is ‘The Colonel’s Favourite‘. And for good reason:
If you’re confused by what that is it’s a turkey, pastrami, coleslaw on Rye. Basically a lighter version of the Reuben.
Here’s how it went down:
There was a lot going on with this sandwich, but all the parts came together to create a delicious symphony in my mouth. The best way to describe the taste is as a refreshing Reuben, as the coleslaw and mayo add a tangy coolness to an otherwise savory and salty sandwich. My first attempt at making coleslaw turned out great! Can’t wait to eat this again.
So there are some lunch ideas waiting to happen for SWOTVAC @ The Trans! Can’t wait! Who’s in?
