That is the best sound I can use to describe what it is like to hit another car. There is no massive *boom* or a loud *bang*… it is almost completely dull compared with your big onscreen car smashes.
I hit someone in the back tonight whilst on my way to our Christmas service. I took my eyes off the road for a few seconds to look at some Christmas lights and then *Crr!*.
In the split second I saw the car and thought, “Oh no…too close…too late…” braced myself and hit with a pretty hard force. No airbags went off (as I half expected) and I pulled over to the side of the road in shock and dismay.
Nobody was seriously hurt (praise God), but the hip pocket will soon be hurting. That is something I will have to bear.
During the police interview I also did the best I could to be honest about what had happened. Though I believed I was driving with due care and dilligence I admitted that it was ultimately my negligence which caused the accident. It’s a hard thing to admit your wrong…to know that in doing so it will cost you greatly (in this sense financially), but at the same time it’s an honesty that God will notice and in the end reward.
It’ll be a tough couple of weeks ahead with Christmas coming and NY. I’m not sure what’s going to happen with the repairs and the costs, so I pray that I’ll be able to trust God in this time and trust that He will lead me through. I also pray that I’ll be able to look at this incident from the perspective of eternity – I may not understand why this is happening now, but I will then, and it will make sense.
