Teeth that is! I had a quick operation under local anesthetic. It was an interesting ordeal as I have not been to a dentist for approximately 15 years and the last time I saw a ‘dental technician’ was in year 10. I’m not sure if my teeth would be up to scratch and to the satisfaction of my Dentist friend, but oh well :P
The opening comment from the dentist who was removing my wisdom teeth was that I might like to consider braces for my crooked teeth, but nothing to urgent or dramatic as they are generally in the right place and ok. So I thought that since they are generally right and ok I’d leave that option for another time.
So I spent the next half an hour or so getting 12 shots to numb my jaw and tongue, getting my lower jaw wisdom teeth drilled into three sections each to make for easy removal, and having my cheek stretched as the dentist maneuvered his instruments in order to ‘jimmy’ my teeth out. It was a relatively painfree exprience – bar the 4th injection which really hurt and made some of my facial muscles twinge in agony (relax…relax!). I was surprised at how quickly the operation was over.
I spent the next half an hour recovering from the anesthetic – enough for me to confident about walking around whilst not looking like I was drunk. People gave me a few looks reminding me that I had two balls of gauze stuck in my jaws to help clot the bleeding – which weren’t really effective considering that I spent the next 20 or so minutes at the hospital pharmacy (Logan Public Hospital) dribbling blood everywhere! Considering that my lips and chin were numb I did not notice any dribble until it was too late… It wasn’t a pleasent experience for me or for the pharmacists!
In the end it turned out ok. I spent the afternoon relaxing whilst watching some movies and keeping a check on the bleeding. By about mid afternoon I was pretty relaxed and started applying cold compresses to my cheeks to help prevent swelling. I’m pretty pain-free at the moment and there’s no visible swelling either – though I’ve been assured that any swelling may arrive tomorrow as well.
I very much look forward to eating solid food again! Don’t get me wrong, Jook is good…but even after only a day of it I’m missing food already… *sigh*
Have reconnected to the internet through Aztec. They offered a ‘March Special’ – that is, basically unlimited ADSL broadband for $45 a month! Much better than the deal I had with Telstra which had me at 2Gig per month for $59.00 – and since Mookee and I went over this limit by about double, our last internet bill was a little large for liking. Aztec have been good – quick and friendly service. I’ve had a few hiccups with my new Netgear modem but otherwise I think I’ve learnt the trick to good connection with this new combination.
