Our office Christmas party was to start at 3pm. However a number of staff are currently in a meeting which was scheduled at 2pm and is still going…

So in the meantime I got to crack my first bonbon since I was…five? I got a little Christmas tree decoration (in the shape of a bear), a cheesy crown that I’m currently wearing, and a little message with an inspirational quote – along with a corny joke.

So the quote reads a little something like this, “Don’t start living tomorrow – tomorrow never arrives. Start working on your dreams and ambitions today.”

Initially I thought to myself, “What foolhearty thing to think!” But then I thought about it a little more. I was then reminded of a couple of things:

– Jesus shared a parable of the rich fool in which he described a man who ‘lived in the tomorrow’ by deciding to expand his barns and storage space so that he could comfortably retire. Little did this rich fool know that his life would be taken from him that night and would therefore have nothing to show for it. I thought of this parable because the quote above did have some truth to it, in the light of what Jesus taught.

– On the other hand, Provers 16:9 reminds us ultimately that God’s plans prevail over our own.

So what is the over riding point? Worldy wisdom (if this wishy-washy quote could be called that) will always contain something of God’s truth, but ultimately without divine revelation we are lost.

Now…bring on the festivities!
